Role Summary:
The Transportation Manager is a critical, field-based role responsible for supporting and monitoring daily transportation operations across multiple sites. This position serves as the primary point of oversight for ensuring adherence to company procedures, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will be assertive, detail-oriented, and highly engaged in on-site activities, maintaining a strong presence among drivers and staff to ensure consistent execution of transportation protocols.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Operational Oversight:
- Maintain a consistent on-site presence to observe and support all aspects of transportation operations.
- Ensure strict adherence to established company procedures, safety protocols, and delivery schedules.
- Collaborate regularly with General Managers, dispatchers, and logistics teams to promptly resolve operational concerns.
Fleet & Asset Management:
- Monitor the daily condition, availability, and utilization of transportation assets, including trucks, trailers, and refrigeration units.
- Oversee the proper use of telematics systems such as Samsara, Verizon, and Motive.
- Support the implementation of preventive maintenance programs and ensure compliance with payload and reefer unit standards.
Driver Engagement & Performance Monitoring:
- Engage directly with drivers to reinforce expectations, promote accountability, and foster open communication.
- Evaluate driver performance through scorecards, route tracking, and direct observation.
- Support hiring, training, and corrective action processes in collaboration with Human Resources and site leadership.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
- Monitor licensing requirements, documentation, and safety standards through periodic audits and inspections.
- Identify and proactively address any compliance-related deficiencies.
Vendor Coordination & Cost Control:
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of vendor-supported programs, including fuel management, fleet leasing, and telematics systems.
- Monitor cost-related metrics such as fuel usage, asset downtime, and maintenance expenditures to support financial efficiency.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in transportation management, fleet operations, or logistics.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations, fleet tracking technologies, and operational compliance standards.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to engage effectively with drivers and operational personnel.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work in a field-based capacity with a strong emphasis on visibility, accountability, and process adherence.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
